EMDR and IFS Intensives

Dig deep with multi-hour trauma intensives with intentional pacing and integration. Intensive sessions are extended therapy sessions lasting 3–5 hours, over one or more days (up to week consecutive), designed to create space for more sustained, immersive work with EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and/or somatic awareness. Intensives are effective for addressing deeper themes that benefit from extended processing time, or single incident traumas that you desire to process in a condensed time frame.  This option works best for those who do not want to commit to weekly therapy or have a weekly talk therapist and want to add some additional trauma support. If you want the space and time to work through a specific memory, negative belief about yourself, pattern, or experience without the interruptions of week-to-week life, this may be a good fit for you.

Available by private pay to residents of California and Colorado under the purvue of my licenses.

Who it’s for

Intensive sessions are best for clients for whom one or more of the following are true:

  • Are ready to engage in deeper, concentrated work

  • Have a clear sense of a memory, group of memories/experiences, theme, or negative belief that they want to process with EMDR and/or IFS therapy.

  • Are seeking time-limited, focused, intentional therapy rather than, or in addition to, ongoing weekly sessions

  • Are looking for clarity, integration, or movement around something that feels stuck or sensitive

  • Want to safely explore memories or wounds with protective layers that may be challenging to work through in a one hour session

  • Are interested in understanding their internal system through parts work

  • Are preparing for or integrating a psychedelic experience

  • Can dedicate several hours to focused self-exploration and integration

How intensives differ from weekly sessions

  • Time and space to go deeper: This is not weekly, open-ended therapy. Instead, it is time-limited, intensive work designed to support insight, healing, integration, and meaningful internal change. This work is guided by curiosity, choice, and attunement to your system. We collaborate around what you want to focus on during our time together. You decide which parts or memories feel most important to explore, understand, or tend to. With several hours or days together, we can carefully and efficiently explore memories, negative beliefs about yourself, patterns, or experiences that often have multiple layers of protective “parts” or defenses.

  • Working safely with protective parts: Longer sessions allow us to gently approach these layers, honor the role of whatever arises, and create enough safety for meaningful processing without overwhelm. Many people who come to this work are thoughtful, self-aware, and already “doing the work” in their own therapy or personal practices, but have a specific theme, memory, or issue that requires deeper work. My role is to help you slow down, listen more closely to your internal system, and make sense of what is happening beneath the surface.

  • Integration built-in: Using integrated EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we follow your system’s lead and work at a pace that supports depth without overwhelm. Because of the extended timeframe, we include intentional moments for grounding, reflection, and resource-building so insights and shifts can carry into your daily life.

What a session might include

  • Creating a collaborative targeted agenda for the memories, negative beliefs, or wounds you want to address

  • Processing past experiences or trauma with EMDR, at a pace that respects your nervous system and allows for more depth of work.

  • Exploring and working with different “parts” of you, if and when they arise, through IFS. Uncovering protective layers and underlying needs that might otherwise block the trauma healing

  • Using polyvagal-informed and somatic mindfulness techniques to regulate, stabilize, and integrate emotional experiences

  • Reflection and planning for continued support and integration after the session

3 hour sessions, 5 hour sessions, and multi-day sessions (up to a week of consecutive sessions), are available by private pay and can stand alone or be combined with weekly follow-ups if desired.

Due to length of session, intensive are not covered by insurance anywhere in the US at this time. Available online to residents of California and Colorado.

Benefits of Intensives

  • Focused and target trauma healing with a collaboratively created, attuned, and responsive agenda

  • Efficient use of time

  • Allows for significant progress in a shorter time period than weekly sessions

  • Day-to-day life is less likely to interfere with or slow down the healing process

  • Reduces disruptions caused in gaps between weekly sessions

  • Tailored to your needs and customizable to meet your goals and challenges

  • Can be done in collaboration with your weekly therapist if desired

Therapy isn’t about forcing change. it’s about creating the conditions of safety and compassion where change is not only possible, it is a natural product of our inherent healing capacity.

Deborah Griffith (she/her)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CA, CO)

I am EMDR certified and IFS trained and have done hundreds of hours of this work. love working with anyone who is interested in digging deep, seeking lasting healing rather than band-aid coping strategies, and transforming their lives.

My favorite work, and the work for which I am best equipped, goes deeper than symptoms management and short-term solutions. Instead, with compassion and curiosity, we can take a closer look at your inner world. We can uncover the origin stories behind various symptoms and coping strategies you have developed over the course of your life. We can release the “charge” and distress in traumatic or challenging memories. We can befriend your body, your mind, and your nervous system and learn the deep well of histories and wisdoms they carry. We can lighten the load that you shoulder and rewire the patterns that have been driving your life, right from the root of where those patterns began in your personal history or ancestry. It is not a quick fix - it is a transformation.
